Purpose
During your travels around Little Rock, your engine will perform various functions that will result in the powertrain getting hotter. You may already be familiar with how oil is used to reduce the temperature by lubricating these parts and reducing friction. Coolant differs in that it acts as a temperature regulator. It is able to do so because it is a concoction of two halves of water and antifreeze. Because of this, it does not begin boiling or freezing under most natural conditions. That way, it can keep your engine at a consistent equilibrium for optimal functionality. However, coolant will begin to wear away over time, which is why you should have the reservoir regularly exchanged.
Coolant Service
In most cases, we suggest having your coolant supply changed out once every two years, or 30,000 miles. This can vary, so be sure to check your Owner’s Manual for details specific to your X5, X3, or M5. When you schedule a service appointment at our nearby location, you’ll be met with our welcoming and experienced team. They will start the process by taking a look at the current quality and quantity of your coolant supply. If it simply appears lower than usual, they will look for potential coolant leaks. Once that has been solved, they will top off your remaining reservoir and you can be on your way along Route 70. However, if there appear to be dirty particles floating within the liquid, the remaining coolant will be flushed out and replaced with a fresh batch straight from our Parts Department.
Red Flags
If you’re not sure of the last time you had your car's coolant replaced, it’d be a good idea to keep an eye out for warning signs over time. This can include the engine temperature gauge indicating overheating, as it is possible that your vehicle's coolant is no longer good enough to perform its role. Occasionally, it can be followed up by a decrease in fuel economy on your trips to Kanis Park, since the powertrain is having to work harder to achieve the same results as before. If you notice a sweet smell emanating from your BMW’s vents, be sure to address the issue as soon as possible, as it could be a coolant leak.
